Q: When Should I see a Lactation Consult?

A: You may simply want to come check-in to ensure feeding is running as smoothly as possible. Or, some common issues that prompt families to seek help include:

pain while feeding, nipple damage, difficulties latching, baby coughing or choking, bottle introduction/refusal, long feedings, slow weight gain, clogged ducts, mastitis, weak oral motor skills, oral ties, and much more.

    Q: Do you take insurance?

A: Yes, I work with company called The Lactation Network to offer in-home, virtual, and prenatal visits at 100% coverage! Follow the link on the home page to find out more and see if your plan is covered. We accept most PPO plan with plans from

Have another insurance plan? The Lactation Network is always working to cover additional plans. I recommend you still complete the form to see if you may qualify

I provide a superbill upon request for those who do not qualify for The Lactation Network

Q: How quickly can you see me?

A: I am usually able to see parents needing urgent help within 48 hours. If you need immediate assistance please email me at Erin @searslactation.com and I will do my absolute best to book you ASAP.

Q: Can you tell me if my baby has a tongue tie?

A: Only certain providers such as a pediatric dentist can provide an official diagnosis, I perform a functional assessment on baby’s mouth to determine whether your baby has restricted tissue that can effect impact feeding. Having a trained IBCLC such as myself evaluate your baby’s oral function and behavior at the breast is a great place to start. From there I will tag in additional providers to help you achieve optimal care for desired resolutions of any restricted tissue.

If your hospital care team or pediatrician has told you no tie is present, but you are experiencing pain, nipple damage, or other feeding issues (slow weight gain, breast refusal, etc.), a functional assessment is recommended. Not every medical provider is trained to identify oral restrictions effectively

    Q. Do you offer pump fittings?

A: Yes! Pump fittings can be performed virtually or in person. Pump fittings are crucial for lactating parents who will be pumping on a regular basis to maintain supply while at work, traveling, etc. The standard sizes included in the box with your pump are not appropriate for most people! Flange fitting and education on how to pump optimally matters as well. Sears Lactation carries flange insert and can leave you with everything you need to pump effectively in less than an hour

Q: How can you do lactation care virtually?

A: Great question! While not all circumstances are ideal via telehealth, it is possible to assess, educate, and coach a great deal remotely. The only element not possible is a weighted feeding.

Telehealth make it possible for me to see families all over the world. If needed/possible I may request that high quality photos/videos to be sent through a secure patient portal. Telehealth is also great for local families who have been seen in-person and have follow-up questions. that are too in-depth for messaging, but don’t warrant an additional in-person visit

    Q: What are your fees?

A: Please see the services tab for details. I have a couple slots dedicated to sliding scale families upon request.

Q: Do you work with exclusively formula feeding or combo feeding families?

A: Yes, absolutely! Every family deserve compassionate feeding support. I can help you trouble shoot digestive concerns, bottle feeing skills, and more. my goal is to support the needs of each individual family. If you desire to explore your milk production options or work on latching we can do that as well, but it is not required to receive care.

Q: Do you offer prenatal care?

A: Yes! I really enjoy meeting families at all stages of need. One of the best ways to set yourself up for success in your feeding journey is to book a prenatal consult (Also covered through The Lactation Network). We discuss your goals, your concerns, and help you feel confident about navigating the first few weeks of parenthood.

Q: How do I book an appointment?

A: You can self-book online using my booking system (follow the “Book Now” button on my Services page), or reach out via email at Erin@searslactation.com

Only a portion of my available appointment times are listed - so if you do not see a booking time that meets your needs please reach out! Some weekend slots may be available as well, especially for urgent cases.
